The Green Shoes

At the TV room today, I asked my brother what had happened to the girl mum introduced to him 2 years ago. Why, despite the fact that she was well-to-do, a talented violin player, and a professional lawyer, did he write her into the Little Black Book of Rejects just after 2 dates? Was she ugly? Or what?

You would never have guessed the answer that came next.

"Oh, she was a morbid one indeed. The first time I met her, she wore green shoes. Who wears green shoes?"

You mean like the green shoes that blend well with the grass?

"And she was wearing some strange dress to go along with the green shoes."

So, the girl's sense of fashion defeated her chance of a powerful union. Imagine the riches of a doctor and a lawyer combined. Abundance is the only word to describe the future.

Of course the lesson learnt here is not what makes a perfect first date. There is no standard template for a perfect first date. If cupid does not strike, no amount of fashion sense will make 2 persons fall in love. If cupid strikes, no quantity of green shoes will turn the guy off!

This reminded me of PC. Today was her birthday. And I knew that because I have the habit of marking everyone's birthday on my calender, be it whether he is my best friend or my worst enemy. I could have been celebrating it with her today if not for some unexplanable glitch that occurred in our "relationship". One day one year ago, she just called me up and accused me of seeing another girl because I did not reply her numerous mobile messages. And I wasn't able to convince her about my clear conscience.

The connection between PC and me was just not fated to be. In retrospect, this definitely is the outcome I desire. She was a girl with many ex-boyfriends, and the thought of having another guy who might potentially cheat on her just pissed her off. Mentally, she was very disturbed.

Perhaps nature has a way to match things up. All elements required to build a compound must be in the right amounts for it to last. You can't plant a normal seed in the soil and expect it to grow without regular watering. However, if you replace the seed with a cactus cutting, you will get a thriving life. In the case of the green shoes, as well as the case of PC, both my brother and I were just not cut out to be a cactus cutting; the soil was just not right for us to settle in.
